The first two Thor movies are generally regarded as some of the least enjoyable MCU movies so far. The reviews aren't always super harsh, but the movies are pretty dry.
That all changed with Thor: Ragnarok. Writer/director Taika Watiti took the character and turned into him one of the funniest and most likeable Avengers. The film also set up a very personal and transformative arc that carried through Infinity War and Endgame. After Ragnarok succeeded to the degree that it did, it seemed inevitable that a fourth Thor movie would release. It wasn't always super clear if Watiti would be back, but he was the, seemingly, best option. Things weren't too clear though, due to Waititi and the fourth movie not being announced and with Thor being setup to possibly join the Guardians of The Galaxy in one of the final scenes of Endgame.
Now, it has been confirmed that Waititi and Hemsworth will be back for Thor 4. The director was working on Akira, but production problems led to a delay and everyone decided to let Thor 4 get done before that project. No word on release date yet, but we will let you know when we know!
