Here we go again. 10+ MCU announcements summed up in a previous post, here are the Star Wars announcements:
Taika Watiti Untitled Film (updated 12/11/20) - Kathleen Kennedy announced the long rumored (trades confirmed it, really) Taika Watiti's Star Wars film. No title, but it is supposed to be unlike anything we have seen before in Star Wars.
The Bad Batch - The continuation of The Clone Wars got a shiny, new trailer. Really, I do not give a fuck about these cliche assholes, but I am down for more Clone Wars content and am down for the fact that this seems like it could be the cancelled bounty hunter show. Well, I think it was rumored or cancelled or SOMETHING, but this time period has still so much potential and such a great aesthetic that I am eager to see what Filoni and team get into in terms of lore and what major events these guys can mix in with. Lot of potential, even if I don't like the main characters right now.
Lando - Justin Simien (Dear White People) is developing a solo show for the lovable scoundrel, Lando Calrissian. No word on time period or cast or plot.
Star Wars A Droid Story - Star Wars Droids is a beloved classic, or well it was a show, which is now being rebooted and brought to Disney+. I believe it is animated and that is all I can say about it, really.
The Acolyte - The High Republic. Disney announced a series of comics and novels that would kick off stories in an era previously unseen. It takes place well before The Phantom Menace. The Acolyte is coming from Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) and is described as a mystery-thriller. Their will be emerging dark side powers oooo scary. It does sound like an awesome series and it will debut on Disney+
Rangers of The New Republic - I said it on Twitter and I meant it: The Mandalorian is the Annabelle Comes Home of Star Wars. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau will oversee this series, so high ceiling and low floor for sure. It is a spinoff of Mando that takes place in that same time period. No details of any kind otherwise.
The Mandalorian - Season 3 will arrive in almost exactly a year, debuting on Christmas 2021.
Ahsoka - Rosario Dawson has officially made it as Ahsoka. She JUST debuted the Clone Wars veteran and fan favorite character in live-action form last month. And now? She will headline a Disney+ series that is spin off of Mando and takes place in the same time period of that show.
Rogue Squadron - Patty Jenkins is going to direct what she called, "The best dog fighting movie," ever or in Star Wars or something. I forget what she said and I refuse to look it up, so yeah. It is a title based off of a classic arcade game. No details on plot or timeline, I imagine it occurs during the time period of Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi. It will be released in 2023, making it the first Star Wars movie since The Rise of The Skywalker.
Obi-Wan Kenobi - Here we GO BABBYYYYYYY. YEEEEAAHHHH. The news we have all been praying for: Hayden Christensen is confirmed to be returning as Darth Vader in the Disney+ limited series that follows an Obi-Wan Kenobi adventure 10 years after the Revenge of The Sith. We just need confirmation of Qui-Gon Jinn force ghost cameo and I will literally have the strength to do anything.
